I love missing scenes, Sister Grace, and you did a wonderful job portraying the boys while in jail. Very cute how Kid led Heyes on knowing he had the keys.

Ghislaine -- very good top ten picks, though I was kinda fond of Heyes' singing and I bet Kid coulda really bust it loose with the right gal!
Sister Grace-- Funny how Kid let Heyes rant on and on. Bless his nimble fingers, and the wisdom of Grampa Curry. |

Very funny Ghislaine! Me thinks you think way too much about ASJ - if that's possible!
I have a particular fondness for the jingling keys scene Grace and wish more had been made of Kid's amazing pick pocketing skills throughout the series. You certainly did it justice in this little ditty!

Great story AllegraW. Very thought provoking.
Ghislaine. Especially like the line about the speed of the train.
Sister Grace. Wonderful scene. Loved the last line - when I count my blessings Kid, I could you twice. |

Awww Sister G...
We all love the pilot so much and you treat us to a little bit more of one of the great scenes... And yeah - that is a great last line.

Dang, Max! No one does childhood better than you! I was laughing my head off at all the great lines--way too many to enumerate here--and thinking how well you'd got the whinging tween down (and, dare I say, Alex, too?). You put a great spin on the counting blessings prompt. And then the whole mood suddenly changed, and the story became wonderful in a totally different way. The coda was very effective. So sad, and Heyes must be feeling a ton of guilt. Thankfully, Jed is there to support him.
Oh! Thought! Could this story be the start of a series about the Valparaiso Years? Say yes--pretty please??

Aww Max. You've got me reaching for the tissues. Like Ghislaine says, you do these childhood stories so well.
Love Heyes worrying that girls wouldn't be interested in him because of the state of his clothes.
and yes - be careful what you wish for. So sad.

Crikey, Max - I did not see that one coming at all. I was all busy smiling to myself about adolescent hormone levels and then it all went pear-shaped. Very well done, but a harsh lesson for young Hannibal, don't you think, when the only crime was that of being a pre-teen with attitude. How truly awful for him - poor little boy. A super read.

Max, you had my wish come true! I always wanted a Calico story about the raiders coming to the house and I got it. So detailed...down to the pimples on a young adolescent Han. Very good story and did Han ever grow up in the two months, huh?

I guess we know how Calico would have ended the Heyes and Curry story now. Everyone already identified the emotional journey I experienced as I read the story. All I can say is bravo! My mind just went completely blank and the pen dried up.
